This is a GOOD NEWS/BAD NEWS situation.=20

The conflict I found with the external mouse was resolved (good news). It=
 was=20
resolved by using an IBM logo'd mouse (bad news). Some (many?) otherwise=20
totally standard PS/2 mice will probably work inconsistently with the=
 ThinkPad=20
(at least the 755CD). If you are lucky, you may get one that works. I got=
 lucky=20
by using an IBM logo'd one.

Thanks...

Hi!
Some time ago someone in this list mentioned a Toshiba utility that
could be used to silence the HD - if I remember right, this could be
used in different TP models without any problems at all. Ok, *where*
can I get hold of this little gem? And has anyone tried it on a TP750Cs?
Thanks for the info,

A few people have reported success in getting IBM to replace their
batteries for their 750s under warr, and I was looking for some tips
on the best approach - one of my two batteries won't take a charge at
all and the other never gets above the yellow/orange light for "low"
charge. At $170 for the second one, I'd damn well like it to work!

So those of you who called, did you call the standard 1800-772-2227
and just tell them your batt was b0rked or what?

Don,

I have a 360C and therefore only walk-in warranty - but - I called the help
line in
Canada and they told me how to recondition my battery. i humored them by
doing what
they said, and of course, it didn't work. I called back and told them, then
walked into
the service centre. They swapped it for a new one no questions asked. Just
another
reason to buy IBM I guess... ACER on the other hand - well, that's another
story in
customer service.

meanwhile, press fn-F3 and continue working and the HD will shut down. I use
this regularily and it works well. It is also the fastest method I can think
of.

I had a long discussion with the Finnish product manager of TP products.
He told me that it is printed in the product specifications that the battery
only has one year warranty while the rest of the unit has 3 years. I don't
have the specifications at hand so I really cannot argue with him. I've
tried to have the battery replaced on two different TP750 units through
different vendors with no luck.
I wonder if any one on the net has seen this limitation of the warranty or
is this something IBM tells me in the hope of incresing the sales?

BTW, here, the TP750 battery is considerabely cheaper when purchased as a
spare part as opposed to a "second battery".

Excuse the mail that is a repeat of one I mailed a few months ago, but I
(the whole company) have lost 6 days of mail, and someone mailed me recently
to ask how to use the MWave sound with Linux

- SNIP --

You can use the soundblaster emulation under linux by booting linux from
DOS, using 'loadlin' after doing the 'mwgames on' Use the SB16 drivers.

The modem doesn't work this way, it seems to need DOS level support. I
haven't tried using dosemu, but it might work if you tinker with the IO
permission map.

A couple of comments on batteries.

I have never seen a battery fail, but I am very careful: Never start a
recharge without going all the way down (so nice and easy to do on the
TP with the recharge option), and never leave a battery in the machine
for a long time cycling between 90-100%.

Note that with the Li-Ion batteries, these precautions are unnecessary
(indeed the 90-100 cycling business does not occur with li-ion's, they
always keep a 100% charge inside the machine).

P.S. I note with Li-Ion's, that I can keep my 760CD suspended for days,
with relatively little battery drain, whereas before, the combination
ofbattery drain and decay with the Nimh batteries meant rather short
suspend times.

That's handy, I have not rebooted my OS/2 system for weeks now.

I have a dead 755Cs battery. I called EZ-serve, and yes, alas,
although the TP has a 3 year no-question warranty, the battery has a 1
year only warranty. H recommended the battery as a facinating desktop
paperweight. It also has uses as a blunt instrument for repelling
tresspassers, should a shotgun loaded with rocksalt not be available.

Anyone know of a good (cheap) third-party source for 755 batteries?

I found that once I truned on the power saving features (i.e., hard
drive spin down) on my 755C
or 755CX, the constant clunking went away. Can't explain it, but try
it.
