It's been a long time but I have managed to get a parallel port tape backup
and a parallel port scanner to work with the 701. I did have some problems
and I think they had to do with an IRQ conflict. I think that the sound card,
by default, has the same IRQ setting as the parallel port. Try disabling
_everything_ including the trackpoint. Once you get it to work that way,
start re-enabling things until it stops working. Then, you know what the
problem is.
