Thanks for the input so far. I should perhaps stress that what baffles me
is the SPORADIC disappearance of the modem! In other words, all programs
are configured to look for the modem in COM1; Windows terminal ALWAYS
sees it; other comms programs OFTEN DO NOT (but sometimes do!) - I tested
ONE single program at a time (i.e., DOS, WIN, comm program - and NOTHING
else running) and the result is ridiculous: it appears that the modem
disappears RANDOMLY... (But never, ever with Windows terminal - which no
one in their right mind would use, anyway!) Any other suggestions?...
