	The noise definitely does not sound like any modem negotiation process that
	I've ever heard before.  In fact it almost sounds like a harpsicord or
	electronic keyboard.  In fact, there is a pattern that is something like this.
	
	        1.  typical modem negotiation, then
	        2.  2 or 3 of those harpsicord notes.
	
Well, the 2 strange notes (always reminds me of a stick twanged over
the edge of a table) is characteristic of V34.  But if you're not connecting,
maybe the line isn't up to it, or (surely not ;-) the MWave driver is
buggy.
