RE: 755 vs 701

Hi,

No, the sound system on the 701 and 755 are *not* the same. The 755CX/CD/CV use the Mwave DSP chip for sound, and also for modem & telephony functions. The 701 uses the ESS688 sound chip, which is an emulated sound blaster chip used in most other laptops. The 701 also has a standard Rockwell-based 14.4K non-upgradeable modem. As far as the screens go, I actually have one of each - dual scan *and* active matrix. When put side-by-side, it is easy to see why you would want to pay a little extra for the active matrix. Strangely, the battery on the active matrix unit lasts about 10% longer than the passive-matrix. I would have expected to see the opposite results. I switched the batteries between the units to see if it made a difference, but I got the same results. As for the keyboard, after posting my message, I called up IBM Easyserv to find out if it was a common complaint (mushiness), and they told me to send in my unit to have the keyboard replaced. They promised a 3-day turnaround which turned out to be seven due to a backorder on replacement keyboards. I just got the unit back an hour ago, and have played with the new keyboard a little - it feels great! I hope I can still say that after using it for a month or two, though. I'm also posting this message to the TP750 list to advise other 701 owners with sub-par keyboards to get them replaced - it makes a world of difference.

Is the sound system on the 701 & 755 the same?
is your 701 dualscan or TFT? is the TFT display on the 701 same as the 755?

I'm gonna get a 701C, why is the keyboard "MUSHY?"
Does the machine not feel solid?

Pls advise.

Thanks.
