I got a joystick working on my 701...

I'm so excited and I just can't hide it, I have a joystick
on my 701 and I think I like it.

But seriously, I've found a PC Card (PCMCIA type 1) game
port adapter that features a dongle connector, so it will
not interfere with the TP701's folding keyboard. It also
has drivers for DOS/Win3.1 and Windows95 on a 3.5" diskette
with the unit, so you won't have to hunt around WWW pages
or BBSs for drivers (the situation I was in for a certain
serial-to-gameport adapter that had no drivers for Win95).

The adapter is called the "Game Traveler" and its made by
EXP Computers <http://www.expnet.com>. The adapter also
comes with a Champ "PowerPad 100" 4-button gamepad which
is ok but I know I'll be replacing it with a better
joystick.

I got my "Game Traveler" from CDW in Chicago (1-800-401-4239)
for $66.28 plus tax; the CDW item number is "CDW 70889. It
took CDW about 15 days to get it for me since they were out
of stock when I ordered it.

It installed easily, Win95 recognized it and the driver load
from the diskette worked with no problems. I tried it with
two games, Quake (DOS game under Win95) and Dig-Dug (a Win95
game) and had no problems with either, not expansive testing
but an indicator that the adapter does work across DOS and
Win95.

Anyhow I'm thrilled that I now have an alternative to playing
games with the keyboard and mouse, and may now get some extra
life out of my keyboard. :)
