I've received similar responses from lots of people, but I've had mine
since January or February. I had to send it in once when the little prongs
inside the jack broke, but since then no problems whatsoever. That may be
because I bought another 701 in July, and they threw in a Megahertz 28.8
cellular capable, and I tend to rotate between the two. The PPI is good
for short fast sessions, since it tends to drop the line more often, and I
use the MHz for sessions when I need reliability since it doesn't drop the
line nearly as much, because the PPI seems faster. And then I use the
nternal 14.4 when I want to move a download onto my pc card hard drive as
soon as possible.
I broke down and called PPI long distance, and their tech said my ROM
may be too old to flash, and that they could give me an upgraded modem for
"nominal cost." I'll just wait until MHz posts theirs and see how it goes.
