RE: Anatomy of a 365XD--HELP!

We have a few of the 365X's, not the XD's, but I will assume the innards are 
the roughly same.  The 365's take a DIMM and they go in the center towards 
the rear of the machine, just behind the new 'unremovable' hard drive 
(grrrrrr....).  I did see that mine ran pretty hot.  I am also assuming that 
the XD has a CDRom in it, which will also add to the heating.  From what I 
understand, that plastic sheeting is not only for a heat shield, but it is 
also a marker for service.  You are not supposed to remove the plastic 
liner, if you do it supposedly invalidates the waranty.

Not a bad little machine for the cost, but I would much rather have my 
modularity than a few bucks in my pocket.

Hello all--

I have temporary custody of a 365XD and am trying to upgrade the RAM.
Documentation points out that the this is under the keyboard--to my surprise
there is a plastic sheeting that is glued to the innards of the ThinkPad.
The documentation makes a vague reference to this but pretty much ignores
it.  The plastic is adhered to a number of thin, metal parts which I have
done a neat job of bending, folding, *tearing* and I am afraid to continue
because I don't want to cause any physical damage to the machine.

This plastic seems like insulation.  I imagine that since my 755CX (P75)
runs hot, this P100 probably generates some heat as well.

Anyone seen this configuration, or have any insight?  Any help appreciated.
