ThinkPad 701 discontinued?

Just called to IBM PC Direct, asking about current pricing of a ThinkPad
701. They didn´t have them anymore, and kind of hinted it is going to be
announced as a discontinued product pretty soon. I got the same answer from
the Factory Outlet, but at least they said they would be receiving some
refurbished 701´s later this week. The price of refurbished varies from
$1200 to $1900, depending on configuration, with full warranty.

IBM direct forwarded my call to some mail vendor house, which said they
believed they had the few TP701´s that are available in the whole country.
Of course the guy was exaggarating, but he also talked something about new,
even lighter TP with Pentium processor to be announced pretty soon. And he
thought TP701 would be announced as discontinued any day now. They had TP701
486/75 with 8/720 for $1799.

Just FYI, if there is any other TP701-wanna-buys on line. I´ve been an
active reader of this list for a while before I go and trade my Compaq
Contura Aero to ThinkPad. Just been waiting for the prices to drop (I´m a
poor student) after they finally announce TP701 dead and discontinued,
releasing the new Kite thing somebody was mailing about in this list.
