In my experience, when a modem didn't break dial tone, it was because "tip" and "ring" were reversed --- that is the red and green phone wires were backwards. This can be especially the case with home wiring. Anyway, if you can, try reversing the wires and see if it makes a difference. Bob Cowles (aka Dr.Chaos)
