The internal modem in my month old 701C has been an angel. No problems like
missing modem or the sorts. I'm actually using it in Malaysia and though it's
slower than the 28.8 that I use on my office desktop, it's speakerphone
feature is neat.

Eventhough the 701C is discontinued (is it???), don't let IBM off if you've
got nothing but a semi-working modem. The warranty is 3 years (irrespective
of whether the product is still on the market or not).
