Re: MIDI on 750??

I've been using my TP750C with MIDI for over one year to interact with an
electronic keyboard. The hardware that I bought to interface the TP750 with
the keyboard was the MENOTE parallel/MIDI interface box. It hooks into the
parallel port of the TP750 using a standard parallel cable. It then allows
MIDI IN and MIDI OUT to MIDI devices like the keyboard. The MENOTE box must
be plugged into the parallel port when you boot Windows (or WIN95) so that
the drivers initialize correctly. You can then use Windows software to send
MIDI code to the MIDI device or alternatively, "record" MIDI information
output from the keyboard. I bought the device for about $100US and would
highly recommend it as an excellent entry-level device into the world of
electronic music generation/recording.

By "MIDI Capability", I believe it merely means that both these
machines can *play* MIDI files through the speaker--that's it. I don't
believe there is any way to physically hook up MIDI cables and control
musical instruments with it (perhaps a PCMCIA card?). But the drivers to
play MIDI should have come with your machine.

Oh, and the 750--it doesn't play MIDI files very well. Sounds
*very* "tinny" (i.e. like the sound is coming out of a tin can). I was
pleasantly surprised with the MIDI sound the 701 was capable of though.
