This research focuses on creating systems which maintain high-level behaviors across an amorphous substrate. We want to be able to describe the desired behavior of a system without having to consider the fact that it is being executed on an extremely large, faulty network of processors.

Important ideas investigated by this work include the cost of maintaining structure in an unreliable environment, identity of process independent of processors, and collective decision-making.
