> Overview

> Options by IBM extends the life of your mobile systems by announcing
> two new exciting upgrade options for ThinkPad(R) 760 and 755 systems.
> As your mobile system needs continue to accelerate, you can increase
> capacity and enhance the value of your ThinkPad system with a new
> high-capacity hard disk drive (HDD) upgrade. The ThinkPad 760/755
> 1.4GB HDD 3L is a super-slim (12.5 mm) profile, 2.5-inch HDD that can
> be easily added as a second drive in any ThinkPad 760 Ultrabay, or
> used to replace the original drive in any ThinkPad 760 or 755 system.
> For extraordinary capacity requirements, the ThinkPad 760/755
> 2.1GB(1) HDD 2X is a low-profile (17 mm), 2.5-inch HDD compatible
> with "thick-based" ThinkPad 760 and all 755 systems.
>
> Both drives incorporate advanced Magneto-Resistive (MR) head and
> No-ID sector format technologies developed by IBM. MR heads enable
> higher areal densities, thereby reducing the number of disks and
> heads for a given drive capacity.
>
> No-ID sector formatting further increases the storage capacity by
> eliminating the overhead caused by the duplicate storage of each data
> sector's ID fields on the disk, and uses that disk space for
> additional user data. MR head technology, combined with No-ID sector
> formatting, enables the drives to deliver high capacity and enhanced
> performance in a reliable design.
>
> These disk drives are ideal for ThinkPad system users with ever
> increasing requirements for emerging technologies, new applications,
> and data storage. Integrated fax, graphics, Internet, and multimedia
> won't be held back by lack of disk space. The mobile system user
> does not have to sacrifice desktop storage capacity to stay on the
> go. IBM HDDs are designed with key mobility features to meet
> customer needs of ruggedness and low power consumption.
>
> Both ThinkPad HDDs are easily installed and removed by the end user.
> One mobile system can be shared by multiple users by giving each one
> their own disk drive for personal applications and data.
>
> IBM's HDD options are designed to balance the requirements of
> capacity, performance, size, enhanced power management, and
> ruggedness to meet the exacting standards of the ThinkPad customer.
> This is an excellent reason to upgrade your ThinkPad with original
> equipment, designed specifically for your ThinkPad's features.
>
> Intended Customers
>
> ThinkPad 760/755 users who require desktop storage capacity on their
> mobile systems.
>
> Key Prerequisites
>
> These new HDDs are supported on selected ThinkPad 755 and 760 models.
> Refer to the Hardware Requirements section for specific details.
