System Board and Win95

Hello,

Recently I started experiencing some problems with the internal modem
in my TP 701cs. When I use it for a period of more than a few
minutes, I hear a series of beeps and then the machine crashes after
the following message:

Fatal exception 0D has occurred at 054D:00000218. The current
application would be terminated.

The same problem started happening to a 3COM PCMCIA modem, so I
reported this problem to EasyServ. IBM replaced the system board and
the internal modem and told me that this problem no longer occurs when
they used their test drive. However, the problem still occurs on my
current drive. They said that the bad system board corrupted some
win95 files and applications (is this possible?) and that I need to
re-load win95. I re-loaded win95 on top of the current disk (without
reformatting the disk), but I still get the same problem. IBM offered
to send me a new replacement drive, but they won't load win95 or
transfer my data.

I really want to avoid re-installing everything from scratch. Is
there some Win95 files that I can simply re-load from the CD?

BTW, the battery meter on the Win95 task bar disappeared when the
system board failed and still doesn't show after the system board
replacement and the win95 reload.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Thank you very much.
