External Display on Win95? (TP750Cs)

I've been trying (unsuccesfully) to get a higher resolution on my external
display... I must be forgetting something since WIn95 won't let me change
resolutions.  If I try to change the display (Standard VGA 800x600 or
1024x768) Win95 tells me that there is a problem with my hardware... I have
the IBMVesa driver loaded in real mode (Do I need this?) 

Any sugestions???
