MWave version 2.00
I downloaded version 2.00 of Mwave drivers from Compuserve this morning. I've
already installed them under Windows 95, and I like them a lot better than
those in v1.1!
The highlights IMHO are:
- V.34 modem with V.8 (28,800bps!)
- Autostarting modem (no need to manually start the modem in startup folder)
- Better optimization of the DSP when modem/sounds are in use
- Better DSP support for games
- Better behaviour in machines with >16 megs of memory.
- Support for DSVD capability (Digital Simultaneous Voice & Data) in the modem
As of this morning, these files were not availble on the FTP site, but I'll
bet they will be in a day or so.

The disks posted here are a complete release of Mwave and supersede all
previous postings.
If you have a DOS/Windows system, you only need to download the two
Mwave for DOS disks and the two Mwave for Windows disks to upgrade to
Mwave 2.00. Always install the DOS disks first. See below for Midi.
In an OS2 environment prior to installing the Mwave version 2 code,
please install 'ThinkPad System Management Device Driver' from the
ThinkPad Utility disk by using the 'Device Driver Install' utility in
OS/2. This is the AODBSMD.SYS driver and enables power to be turned on
to the Mwave DSP.
If you have Warp, you will need the two Mwave for OS/2 Warp disks and
the Mwave Audio for Warp disk (MWV200-1).
We have separated the Midi samples installation from the Windows
install. These samples are the same as the Mwave 1.00 and 1.10 samples,
so if you already have MIDI installed and working you won't need these disks.
Note that there are two "disk 1"s; MWM100W1 is for installing the samples
in a Windows environment and MWM100O1 is for installing in an OS/2
environment. Regardless of which environment you are using, the disks
MWM100-2 through MWM100-6 always follow. The Midi install searches
all harddrives for the MWAVE.INI files and updates pointers to the
Midi samples. Therefore it is best to do this install last!
We are working on a Persistent DOS modem patch and will post it
when available. This patch is only for users who make a modem
connection in DOS and then start Windows. Other users should
not install this patch.

1.10 When running certain applications in Windows, an out of memory
message appears. (This fix was previously available from the
PCC BBS as TPW102_1.EXE and TPW102_2.EXE.)
1.10 If &W0 & &W1 are used on one AT command line, only the last one

1.10 When attempting to use the Mwave Modem with Windows for Work
Groups' Remote Access System (RAS), the connect result message
is not properly recognized.
1.10 The Windows virtual COM driver doesn't find the modem active
when starting Windows.
1.10 Speakerphone volume is too low on certain telephone lines
(for example, Japanese lines). When the speaker volume
is increased, the microphone gain would decrease.
1.10 Often seen as a "FAX back" problem, an incompatibility between
the Mwave FAX modem and certain FAX machines (or FAX modems)
exists.
1.10 When using any application to record WAV files, a clicking sound
is audible at the beginning or end of the recording.
1.10 Some DOS communications applications are unable to access the COM
ports.
1.10 When the quality of a connection on the phoneline decreases
(often recognized by the presence of noise), the Mwave modem
renegotiation is taking too long and sometimes causing the
connection to be lost.
1.10 Modem data transfer rates are slow when compared to more
conventional modems.
Note: With older character mode protocols lower throughput
data transfer will be experienced. If one of these protocols,
such as XMODEM, must be used, some improvement may be achieved
by turning off data compression before establishing the modem
connection (by using the AT \N0 "H2 commands).

Installing Mwave 2.0
---------------------------
a. Mwave for DOS:
- At a DOS prompt, not a DOS box in OS2 or Windows
- Insert the Mwave for DOS disk 1 into the diskette drive.
- Type "A:INSTALL" and press Enter.
- Follow the instructions on the installation windows and insert
additional disks when prompted.
- If error messages appear at the end of installation, click OK
and complete the installation. (Even though these messages
may appear, the installation should be successful.)
- When installation is complete, reboot your ThinkPad.
- Type command FASTCFG to set defaults for Mwave modem or games
at the command prompt
b. Mwave for Windows:
NOTE: Before you update Mwave for Windows, make sure that you
installed Mwave for DOS.
- From Windows Program Manager menu bar, select File
and then select Run.
- Insert the Mwave for Windows disk 1 into the diskette drive.
- In the Command line entry box, type "A:SETUP" and press Enter.
- Follow the instructions on the installation windows and insert
additional disks when prompted.
- If error messages appear at the end of installation, click OK
and complete the installation. (Even though these messages
may appear, the installation should be successful.)
- When installation is complete, close Windows and reboot your
ThinkPad.
c. Mwave for OS/2 Warp*:
- Insert the Mwave for OS/2 disk 1 into the diskette drive.
- Go to an OS/2 window.
- Type "A:SETUP" and press Enter.
- Follow the instructions on the installation windows and insert
additional diskettes when prompted.
- After Mwave disk 2 has completed, shutdown OS/2 and
reboot your ThinkPad.
- Insert the MWV200-1 (Audio for Warp) in the diskette drive.
- Go to an OS/2 window.
- Type "A:SETUP" and press Enter.
- Follow the instructions on the installation windows and install
all support.
- After install is finished, shutdown OS/2 and
reboot your ThinkPad.
* Note that "Multi Media Software Support" from Warp must be
already installed. (This is not the same as "Multimedia Device
Support")!
d. Mwave Midi Samples
