Linux on 755CX

Hi all,

I recently posted about my success in getting Linux & X running in
800x600 mode on the TP755 - I also ran in to the same problem Ivar
mentioned. I had to patch the kernel init source to get Linux to
recognize 37 lines in text mode (it figured out the 100 columns
correctly). Now everything works correctly, *except* I get about 1/2
line of garbage text at the bottom of the screen. Looks like about 8
scan lines high. Apparently there must be some additional tweaking of
the 90C24 that is necessary. I'm waiting for the Western Digital data
book... The real reason for posting this message, however, is that I
discovered how to get the MWave soundblaster emulation and modem
functions working under Linux! Since I need to boot DOS first to enable
800x600 mode via the PS2 command, I tried running the 'MWGAMES ON' (for
soundblaster) and 'MWMODEM ON' (for modem) commands before launching
Linux, and they work! Forgive me if this is common knowledge, but I
couldn't find references to anyone else using the ThinkPad's DSP chip
under Linux, so I thought I'd share my experiences...
