The major german unix magazine reviewed solaris/intel.
To benchmark it, they did a comparison with Linux, I can't
remember on what processor. Their conclusion: Linux is
twice as fast as Sun's "commercial" offering, a fact which
for some reason made them hesitate about recommending it :)

Of course, marketing shysters may have crippled the product
on purpose so as not to compete with the dedicated Sun hardware.
Such things have happened at other companies, even perhaps
at IBM :)
