e-clerk hardware
Here's a list of the hardware specs after going through a few iterations
with computer choices and video cameras. I would like to place the
order tomorrow or Wednesday with Bryt for the equipment.
Computer:
Dell 650 Workstation
Dual 2.8GHz Intel Xeons
2GB RAM (4 DIMMS)
146GB SCSI 10,000rpm hard drive (*NOT* for PERC3)
48X CD-ROM (no CD-RW)
ATI FIRE GL X1 128MB VGA/DVI card
No Monitor
No Factory-installed OS
Video Camera:
The camera in the line that Konrad recommended that actually captures
640x480 at 30 fps is the Sony DFW-VL500 (or the V500 if want to choose a
lens for it). It's supported under Linux (http://www.linux1394.org) so
that's not a problem. The higher-resolution cameras in that line don't
capture at higher resolution at 30 fps, so they won't work.
1394store.com has it for $1,149.
If we still want to discuss which camera to get, we could start off with
an iBot firewire camera to have a device in place that can actually
capture at 30 fps. I've e-mailed Jason Yang (who I was told built a
camera array out of iBots) about confirming their performance. The
iBots are quite inexpensive (~$100) compared to the digital video
cameras.
The touchscreen and scanner are already ordered. I'm going up to talk
to Michelle in SLS tomorrow about an extra microphone array they might
have, otherwise we should order one of those, too.
