IBM ThinkPad support experience

We'll group, I have just had a long but fruitful experience with the IBM
ThinkPad technical support people. I recently bought an IBM PCMCIA 33.6
modem thinking that it might install with a lesser likelihood of problems
in my 701. No such luck; the Win95 Plug and Pray monster struck again and I
was left with neither modem working. So I called the tech support for the
IBM Communications group, but in the process of working out the problem got
cut off and routed to the ThinkPad group who was unable to route me back
due to the fact that the Com Group was closed. I explained the situation to
the tech person and he said that he would do his best despite the fact that
he was not a specialist in the area. To make a longer story shorter; he
managed to help me work through the various com port and IRQ conflicts
until we got the modem up. After dealing with 5 different tech support
departments of major computer companies in the last two months, I now
understand why some people swear by IBM and are willing to pay a little
more to have the Big Blue backing.
Now if I could only get Win95 to quit allocating resources to the disabled
internal modem and allow me to restore the IR port, my world will just be
red as roses.
