our oldest cat fattie (aka fatso, bubba, fatass, heavyweight, inverse) turned 5 years old on september 15, 2004. he came to us by way of his mom gamma, who was a lovable stray that followed eli and i home one day in summer '99 from umass. we took her in only to find out about a month later that she was pregnant, the slut. after much anticipation, we woke up one rainy september morning to find a litter of 5 kittens and mamma under our couch! of this litter fattie was the runt, so we decided to keep him; little did we know he'd turn into the butterball he is today. he has a twin brother kiddo, whom my mom adopted, and another brother spot, whom my friend anna took in.

a couple summers later in june of 2001, muffin came along. we were hanging out at our friend mike's dairy farm in vermont, and he mentioned there was a fresh litter of kittens running around in the barn. we set out looking for the litter and finally found all the kittens lounging underneath the shit-shoot (the manure disposal thing off the side of the barn); she was so filthy and cute, it was love at first sight.

meet fattie and muffin's friends, lewis and max.

we also had the opportunity to foster-parent a kitten for a week in summer 03.
kirby (a vt bumpkin) and i found boots in yet another dairy barn in vermont (see a trend?) and he wasn't doing too well. so eli and i brought boots to boston with us to care for and nurture until we found him a permanent home. i never thought having a foster kitten would be so hard! first, muffin just hated his lil guts - don't let the cuteness fool you, she can be a major bitchcat. second, when i finally found him a home, it was SO hard to give him up. he was the sweetest kitten i've ever met... and i've met my share of catlings. word has it he's loving it at his new home; they renamed him nemo.
