Sam & Max Sightings
Lots of people have written me and mentioned places Sam or Max
have showed up in the background of a computer game or comic book.
Thanks to everyone who has done so...there's a lot. Here's a list:
I've heard Max appears in Rebel Assault II...anyone know where?
- Max shows up in Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. There is
a snack you have to buy in the "team" version, called a
"sizzling squab on a stick". It looks exactly like Max's head.
Thanks to Kenn Stollery-Jones for this! Check out his excellent Sam & Max
Ate My Balls Webpage.
- Max's head is in the Nintendo 64 game "Shadows of the Empire."
It's a challenge point on the speeder bike (Beggar's Canyon) level.
Thanks to Arthur Gordon (agordon1@netcom.ca) for telling me!
- Max is a painting in the inn in "Day of the Tentacle." (jameson
rhodes, dwr@sbt.infi.net)
- Sam & Max are an idol in Lucasart's "Indiana Jones and the Last
Crusade" (jameson rhodes, dwr@sbt.infi.net).
- Type SAMNMAX 3 times in "Afterlife" and Max will come out and
destroy the city! (Joey Kean, keanpa@emeraldcoast.com)
- Max is the hood ornament for the blue hovercar in Full Throttle (anon)
- If you turn off the lights and use the flashlight in the hotel
room in LucasArt's Indiana Jones an the Fate of Atlantis Indy
makes a shadow Max on the wall!
- A lunging Max is the hood ornament of the blue car in LucasArt's
Full Throttle. He's especially visible in the article on the
game in The Adventurer #9. (thanks to Dyna, alexinva@cais.com, for this!)
- James Redekop pointed out a Sam & Max story in Critters #50, "The
Damned Don't Dance," that I missed.
- Max appears various times in the Jill Thompson run of Sandman.
- Issues 2 and 3 of Badger Goes Berzerk (Dark Horse?). Jill
Thompson's rendition of Badger as an 8-year-old has Max as a small
plush toy. (bishop@mojave.wr.usgs.gov)
- Max is in a portrait in LucasArts' Day of the
Tentacle. (ttarn@uoguelph.ca)
- Max appears as graffitti in LucasArts' Full
Throttle. (ttarn@uoguelph.ca)
- A secret room in LucasArts' Dark Forces is in the shape of
Max's lovable head. (Derrik Pates (dpates@cavern.nmsu.edu), ttarn@uoguelph.ca)
- In LucasArt's Secret of Monkey Island there's a monkey head with various
totems around it: one has the silhouette of Max sitting on Sam's head
(Bret Mogilefsky, mogul@csua.berkeley.edu, and Simon Austin, simona@power.globalnews.com)
- In LucasArt's Secret of Monkey Island II, in the background
of the costume shop (Mark Jarvin, jarvin@islandnet.com, and Bret Mogilefsky)
- In a beta of LucasArt's Indiana Jones and the Fate of
Atlantis, Max would wander out of a wall and say something like,
"Gosh this is spectacular" during a major special effects scene that
hadn't been drawn yet. (Bret Mogilefsky, mogul@csua.berkeley.edu)
- Max appears in the Adam Warren productions of Dirty Pair
and Bubblegum Crisis; he is jewelry, clothing patches, and
tatoos. (Julianne and Neil yu20475@yorku.ca, and Mark Sachs, MBS110@psuvm.psu.edu)
