My TP755CE uses a NiMH battery. It runs just as well with or without the
battery. I leave the battery in all the time. In addition to being one less
thing to mess around with before or after "going portable", it acts as a
built-in UPS while on AC power. I consider the extra "wear and tear" I put
on the battery in this "UPS mode" to be a bit of inexpensive insurance
against power outages. I'm not always running at a location with a UPS at
my desk.
