Yes, they're very hot.. I use a thing from silicon sports, it's a hard,
thin, laptop pad with a thick wristrest on one end.

The whole thing is covered with that wetsuit material they used in their
"skintight" laptop cases, and with the TP feet down, it allows enough air
to circulate between me and the heat that it's comfortable to use..

I picked it up at a local consumer electronics store (Good Guys) for $20.

You might also try using a hardbound book, that's what I used to use..
keeps the heat away from you a lot better than a pillow if you have the
feet down..
