I think the 701 manual states that its battery is designed to not need
a complete discharge, and doing so too often will shorten the life of
the battery.  If it doesn't say it in there, I heard it from a friend
of a friend of a 701 engineer.

My experience with my 701 and the NiMH battery indicates it's true.
