Because that $7000 notebook, if you could find it new, is worth less thean
$1500.

When you drive a car out of the store, it immediately loses some value,,
computers are like that but much worse. If you can afford to be one year 
behind the power curve on notebooks, you can save HUGE amounts of money,
but if you buy latest technology as soon as it comes out, expect it to
depreciate incredibly rapidly!
