I too have had nothing but problems with the COM ports under Win95.
For some reason Win95 tends to ignore the ThinkPad settings and
discover COM ports that aren't really there, and assign them all
the same IRQ.

The only way I've ever been able to get things to work was to delete
*all* of Win95's COM port drivers and reboot, going into Easy Setup
and doing an initialization, and then letting Win95 re-discover
the COM ports again.

After I did that, I'd use the ThinkPad tools to enable the port I
really wanted, delete all of Win95's COM drivers *again*, reboot,
and it seemed to figure out what was really going on.

At least I *think* that was what I did.
