        Its not nearly as complicated as it sounds.

        First of all, I wouldn't add Win '95 "over" Win 3.11.  You can do
an install and have it put all the Win '95 files in their own directory
(surprisingly, I call my directory "Win95"), where you won't have to have
it mess with anything in your "old" Windows directory.

        You may have to update/edit the System.ini and Win.ini files in the
Win95 directory (it doesn't really *need* them, but they're there for
backward compatibility--newer Win95-native software uses the "registry")
and of course set up your desktop/menus however you like them, but at least
you have a separate, discrete installation of Win 95 rather than muddled
mess on top of the old Windows.

        I still have the old windows on my 701 just for "in case" (though I
rarely ever use it--except for a program for my HP100LX which, due to
communications issues, I'm told will not be updated for Win 95).

        That's the easiest/safest route if you're worried for any reason.
