TP701 & Iomega PPL Tape drive, How?

I can not seem to get my TP701 to work with the Iomega Parallel Tape 
drive.  I have tried both floppy/disk port and the multiport at almost 
all of the lpt ports.  Every time I get a message that the drive is not 
there.  My printer however will work from all of these configurations.  
Is there a detail I have missed?
