Instead of using Card and Socket Services, you can use a Point Enabler, a
little piece of software that talked directly to the PCMCIA cards. The
downside is a lack of generality, configuration difficulty, and no
hot-plugging. The up side is that they take a *lot* less memory than C&CS.
