You are correct that if a ni cad battery has cells of differing
quality that you will experience trouble.  My understanding is that
this is not the memory effect, but rather the fact that the good cells
will actually reverse and begin to discharge, while the inferior cells
are still charging up.  This is why the quality of a battery pack is
so important.  I don't doubt that IBM did a pretty good job with
theirs.  They'd be crazy to put an expensive CPU/PROM on a cheap
battery.  I don't think that they did this.

My two batteries still function like new after 1 1/2 years.  I guess
I'll never get an excuse to get a new 'Pad.  :-)
