Only when it's based on the belief that the performance will be
signifigantly different. My modem criteria have always been, in
decreasing order: Price, Warrantee period, and how much hassle they will
give me in warr replacement (if I know).

Megahertz tipped this a bit by adding "Really cool feature" into the
list, but their 5 year replacement policy was a big plus. Plus, for
anyone who somehow still doesn't have a PCMCIA modem, they are way cool
about replacing the modem. They FedExed me a replacement when I was on
vacation once I convinced them I had made all the adjustements possible.
Had it in my hand in less than 14 hours and a full 30 days to mail the
original one back to them. Didn't have to provide a receipt, whatever.
(Of course, with the modem model less than a year old, it _had_ to be in
warr....)
