PCMCIA drivers on tp750CE
Can anyone shed more light on exactly what all these drivers do?
DEVICE=C:\THINKPAD\IBMDSS01.SYS
DEVICE=C:\THINKPAD\IBMDOSCS.SYS
DEVICE=C:\THINKPAD\DICRMU01.SYS /MA=C000-C0FF
DEVICE=C:\THINKPAD\AUTODRV.SYS C:\THINKPAD\AUTODRV.INI
DEVICE=C:\THINKPAD\$ICPMDOS.SYS
The documentation/readme/FAQ etc. give rather sparse explanations. I have
successfully accessed my Xircom PCMCIA Ethernet adapter using only the
first two drivers (IBMDSS01.SYS and IBMDOSCS.SYS). These, I take it, are
for Socket Services and Card Services, and are required before any PCM
card is recognized by the system. I coudn't seem to make the card work at
all if I loaded DICRMU01.SYS, regardless of memory address used. [I made
sure my memory manager eXcluded the same address.] I REM'd the last two
(AUTODRV and $ICPMDOS) to conserve memory, since the system appears to
work OK without them.
Am I going to run into trouble later on if I neglect these last three? I
will soon likely be using a PCM modem in addition to the Ethernet adapter.
The system will invariably be using the AC adapter when the PCM cards are
required, so I don't see the need for power management.
Thanks for any help you can give me with this,
