Well, on my 755C it's controlled by the Sound icon in the ThinkPad Features
group.  I reset mine down to a 3 normally, or even off when I have it 
places I don't want to disturb others.

At least that works for all the tones, beeps, clicks, etc. that I've run
into so far, including the low battery warning (that just went off here
at work...).
