The semester ends, but the issues continue: On Dec. 1, the Federal Trade Commission released it report Protecting Consumer Privacy in an Era of Rapid Change, which present the FTC recommendations on precisely the issues we've been talking about this semester.
This report will undoubtedly figure in upcoming Congressional hearings. So now that you are experts on the issues, we'll beat Congress to it by holding our own hearing. This will be similar to the hearing we did on Nov. 8, except shorter: we want to give you time to look over the report in class, and we'll also save class time for wrap-up.
The report is long, but pretty readable. Please bring a (hard or soft) copy with you to class, since you'll need to consult it during the hearing. Also, please at least skim it before class, and note the main points.
In your testimony, you should comment on the report (from the perspective of your role). Are you happy with the report? Disappointed? Do the recommendations go far enough? Too far? Where has the FTC missed the mark, if they have? What would you like to see changed? You have a very short amount of time to speak. So be clear and brief.
