Use of the 6.001 Lab (34-501)
If you are using the 6.001 Laboratory this term, please note the
following issues.
Hours of operation
As an experiment for this term, we have arranged for the lab to be
accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. At any time, you must use
the code provided to you to open the inner doors. During off hours
(between midnight and 8 am), you will also need to use the code
provided to you to open the outer doors (in the corridor leading to
the lab and the instrument room). Please note that if things go
smoothly this term with such hours, we will be able to extend them to
future classes, so your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Food policy
As a second experiment, we are allowing food to be brought into the
lab. However, please show consideration in doing this: (1) Clean up
after yourself, this is not a Lab Assistant responsibility. (2) Be
careful about food and especially drink near the keyboards and
machines.
Personal safety
Please remember, if you are working the lab late a night, to exercise
caution and common sense in returning to your home. Use Safe Ride.
If you are at the lab past the last Safe Ride time, contact the campus
patrol about getting an escort to your room. If you live in one of
the frats on the Boston side of the river, please consider taking a
cab.
Using Scheme on the Lab machines
Details on getting started using Scheme, Edwin and other components of
the 6.001 machines are spelled out in Problem Set 1. Additional
information is provided in the Don't Panic manual.
