6.001 Scheme for Unix Platforms

We support Linux and NetBSD completely; however the version of 6.001 Scheme installed on Athena for SGIs and Suns is old. It can be accessed in the same way (mentioned below) but is not supported. Some problem sets may work fine, while others which use features of the newer Scheme release will not.

For students with SIPB's distribution of Linux-Athena or NetBSD-Athena installed on their own machines, it is very easy to run Scheme in the same manner as in the lab. Simply perform these steps:
    add 6.001
    scheme001
You will be shown the message of the day, and be presented with Edwin, just like in lab. This should work both under X (suggested) and even in text mode (e.g. by connecting to the Linux machine remotely via telnet Windows)

You can create files anywhere you like, although we suggest ~/u6001/as that is where the save-work and load-work scripts deployed in the lab use to move your files to/from the lab machines and your Athena account.

Stand-alone versions are also available for Linux and NetBSD if you have those operating systems at home without the Athena extensions installed and wish to install 6.001 Scheme locally.
