it's probably a good idea to run everything under vmware
anyway -- say, run a vmware linux instance and windows
instance on top of our hardware running linux. this should
make it so our underlying machine running linux crashes very
rarely if at all -- since crashes and restarts at higher
vmware levels will happen purely in software.
