Re: trevor darrell
Hi all,
I don't seem to have access to the web site below...("forbidden") what
do I need to do? (Besides merge into LCS :-)
Who's on the list?
One of my postdocs, Konrad Tollmar, and I have been mocking up an idea
we've called Virtual Post-its, or audiovisual tags (depending on whether
we want to infringe trademarks :-): the idea is to build vision tools to
recognize characeristic square patches with ink on them (perhaps with
OCR), and also allow users to refer to them using spoken commands. They
could also be used for action--a fanciful version of the idea included
having a user scribble "Turn Off!" on a post it, show it to the system,
then stick it on a lamp. When the user pointed and gestured at the post
it, the lamp would turn off. Of course, you could also use these to tag
documents in various ways. In the limit you could probably do
everything for documents without the physical tag (at a recent IPTO
meetings I heard Victor expousing this concept), but to make something
work in the near term I think using something easily identifiable will
be important (yellow paper), and in the long term having a tangible tag
will probably be a win.
We've made a few initial steps towards implementing this, but
unfortunately the UROP who was going to build it flaked out last term.
We want to get started again, but perhaps it would make sense to combine
efforts with yours. I'm curious to hear more about what you are
doing/have done....

p.s. please add konrad@ai to the list...
