6.893 User Interface Design & Implementation
Fall 2003
PS2: Heuristic Evaluation
Due Wednesday, September 23, 2003, in class
For this individual problem
set, you will do a heuristic evaluation of
the user interface shown below. Find
at least 12 usability problems. For each problem, you
should:
- describe the problem
- identify the usability heuristic it violates (from Nielsen's
Ten Usability Heuristics, or any other guidelines we've discussed
in class)
- explain why the heuristic is violated
- estimate the severity of the problem (cosmetic, minor, major, or
catastrophic)
- propose a solution to the problem
What to hand in:
- a copy of the screenshot annotated with numbers showing where you
found each problem
- your descriptions of the usability problems, numbered to match
the screenshot.
Hand in your problem set as hardcopy in class on Wednesday.
