Explicit Surfaces

The surface is represented explicitly in some functional form.

Examples:

• Height Fields: z=f(x,y)
• Surfaces of revolution: E.g., torus.
• Ruled Surfaces
  The surface mapped out by a line (or line segment) moving through space.

  A ruled surface is defined by a function describing of the location and orientation of the line as it moves. (Examples on next slide.)
