Dear BMG people, I have good news concerning Stata Center DWG files. As some
of you may know, we have trouble opening the Stata DWG file with AutoCAD when
downloaded from floorplans.mit.edu. This is not a software problem. In fact, due to the complexity of the building, the DWG
files have been splitted into several DWG files. Ex: the 3rd floor
has 32_3.dwg, 32_3_arch.dwg and others. When one downloads the floor plan from the website, one only
gets 32_3.dwg. However, the 32_3_arch.dwg is more interesting since it contains
walls etc. As a conclusion, if you want Stata floor plans, type http://floorplans.mit.edu/dwgs/32_3_arch.dwg
and download the file. Open it with AutoCAD and, wow, it works! Now, browsing is disabled in the folder http://floorplans.mit.edu/dwgs so we
will have to use our intuition… The contact at floorplans.mit.edu is Greg Knight
[GKnight@PLANT.MIT.EDU] – see email below. Olivier When you said you downloaded
floorplans from the facilities website, I assumed you were referring to http://floorplans.mit.edu. The url
you provided is a CSAIL website - for which I am not familiar. Although
directory browsing is disabled, the drawings you are looking for are here : http://floorplans.mit.edu/dwgs/. -----Original Message----- From: Olivier Koch [mailto:koch@graphics.csail.mit.edu] Sent: Friday, October 08,

stata floorplates Thank you, Greg. I cannot find the files you
are mentioning. I am on http://isis.lcs.mit.edu/Stata_Drawings/01-CDs/CDs_Stata/.
Is this the correct place, and if so,
where are for example 32_4_ARCH.dwg, 32_D4_FICM, and 32_G4_FICM in there? Thanks, Olivier -----Original Message----- From: Greg Knight [mailto:GKnight@PLANT.MIT.EDU] Sent: Friday, October 08,

stata floorplates Olivier, The drawing files for stata,
much like stata itself, are different than those for other
buildings. Stata uses reference files or external reference files (XREFs) in AutoCAD
terminology. For example, the 4th floor plan 32_4.dwg references 32_4_ARCH.dwg,
32_D4_FICM, and 32_G4_FICM. This was done for a variety of
reasons including 1) the complexity of the Stata plans and the fact that we haven't
cleaned them up to conform to our CAD standards and 2) the nature of the
room numbering for the towers and the manner in which our space accounting
software must deal with that. The child xrefs for a particular floor are
available in the same directory as the parent. Hope this helps. Greg -----Original Message----- From: Olivier Koch [mailto:koch@graphics.csail.mit.edu]

stata floorplates Hi, I am a graduate student
working with prof. Our work is based on 3D
models of existing buildings, such as the Stata Center. I have downloaded DWG files
from the MIT Facilities website for the Stata Center, and I have trouble
using them with AutoCAD. When I open the file, only few items are displayed
but no walls. The Building Model Generation (BMG) team working with Seth
has the same problem. It seems that this is specific to the on your site. My question is: is this a
known problem? do you know how to workaround it? Are the Stata DWG files
different from the other ones? We are using AutoCAD 2002.
Maybe a latest version will work? Thanks a lot in advance, Olivier Koch, MIT CSAIL The 617-253-2698 http://graphics.csail.mit.edu/~koch
