[Fwd: RE: Developer's Guide for MIT/GIS Web Services]

ben et al. --

can you demonstrate an instance in which the interface
linked below produces correct outlines, but the
corresponding raw DXF has an error? greg knight of
MIT says that this can't/shouldn't happen, since the
GIS interface is exporting data derived from the DXFs.
so i'm curious to see if there really is any discrepancy.

When I said 'corrected' I was using your terminology. A more accurate term would be 'rectified' - which would include rotating, scaling, and translating to real world coordinates.

greg, thanks for this. a question:

what does this mean? if there's an error in the DXF
source, by what means is it corrected? and how does
the correction "stick" for future queries?

thanks,

seth

Seth,

This interface serves up the content for our internal space management system (sms) as well as the content for whereis.mit.edu.

The source of the spatial data is our campus map and floorplans -- the same data sources for the dxf data we provide you. The floorplans are 'corrected' with map queries. The interface doesn't serve up a complete floorplan data set however - just the space polylines - and not architectural elements.

greg,

my students and i came across

<http://ims.mit.edu/help/index.htm>

and we're confused -- what is the relationship between
this interface and the DXF source data?

it appears that this interface exports corrected
floorplan data -- is that right? if so, where do
the corrections come from?

thanks,

seth
