Directions to Spoken Language Systems

The Spoken Language Systems group is part of the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. Our offices are located on the third and fourth floors of the Gates tower within the Ray and Maria Stata Center located at 32 Vassar Street in Cambridge . It is located on the northeastern edge of the MIT campus, at the intersection of Vassar Street and Main Street. The Stata Center is also known as MIT building number 32.

MIT is located on the north shore of the Charles River Basin in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. The campus is within 3 miles of two major interstate highways, less than 6 miles from a major international airport, and is accessible via public transportation. MIT is a 15-30 minute walk from downtown Boston (depending on the weather). MIT is a 20-40 minute walk from Harvard University (located just up the river from the MIT campus).

Parking Information

Parking in Cambridge and Boston is generally not an enjoyable experience. Whenever possible, it is advisable to park your car at the hotel at which you are staying, and use public transportation to get to the MIT campus. If you must drive to the campus, there are both on- and off-street parking available, but most public parking is not very close to the center of the MIT campus (unless you arrive early in the morning or late in the evening).

There is unmetered/untimed parking on Memorial Drive and Vassar Street(most of the spaces fill up at around 8:00 AM), metered parking on Massachusetts Avenue, Main Street and Broadway, and unmetered/timed parking on Albany Street and Portland Street.

There are a number of lots at which you may park for a fee. The most convenient pay lot is located in the Technology Square Complex. The entrance to Technology Square is between Polcarri's Restauran300 Technology Square and 200 Technology Square / Building NE43 (the former home of CSAIL) on Main Street. Other pay lots are located at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Vassar Street, Park and Lock on Third Street, Kinney Systems at 4 Cambridge Center (entrances on Ames Street and Broadway), Kinney Systems at Ten Cambridge Center (entrances from Broadway and Binney Street), and the Technology Square Parking Garage located in the Technology Square Complex located on Main Street just past the intersection with Vassar Street.
