A Clinical Event Monitor integrates facts, a user interface for acquiring
knowledge, and a knowledgebase with notification. Most hospital
information system (HIS) vendors use Arden Syntax as the basis for an
event monitor. (Arden Syntax Medical Logic Modules is an HL7 sponsored
procedural language designed to facilitate the sharing of medical
knowledge.) I believe that a better clinical event monitor could be
designed. The presentation is a survey of event monitors, general purpose
rules-based event monitors/expert systems, and what I plan to do next.
