Selker HP, Griffith JL, D'Agostino RB. A tool for judging coronary care unit admission
appropriateness, valid for both real-time and retrospectrve use. A time-insensitive predictive
instrument (TIPI) for acute cardiac ischaemia: A multicenter study. Medical Care 1991 ;29:610-627.
This model calculates the risk of Acute MI or Unstable Angina (classed together as acute cardiac ischaemia) for patients considered for CCU admission. It is usually implemented in an ECG machine for prospective use, with direct measurement of ECG abnormalities such as ST elevation. The model was validated in a large multicentre study in the Boston area. The TIPI achieved an ROC curve area of 85.2 +- 1.52 on Edinburgh data but improved to 89.4% +- 1.39 after re-training of coefficients (on the Edinburgh training data set). The coefficients in the above paper were originally printed incorrectly- correct values are here.
