I don't think it can't be done. Problems normally turn out to
be caused by the X11R6 configuration, namely by the graphics
chip. In this case, IBM chose to use the Trident CYBER9397
(http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/products/thinkpad/5fb6_11da.html). Chances
are that it would work with the existing SVGA server but YMMV.
