Odds and ends
Here's a link to the story
on WBUR broadcast on October 9, based on a paper done for this
class last spring.
Here is some information on the class project, and some references,
to help you pick a topic area, as required for this week's rotisserie assignment.
In class this week
This week is a special class. We'll be meeting jointly with 6.857
(Network and Computer Security) and the topic will be trusted
platforms. First, Joe Pato will discuss trusted paltforms in general
and the Trusted Computing Platform Alliance (TCPA). The Brian
LaMacchia from Microsoft will discuss Palladium. We'll consider the
technical and the policy issues raised by these efforts.
At the beginning of the class (2:00-2:30) we'll have a brief
discussion of people's project selections and start getting the
project groups organized.
Readings to do before class:
- Read Ross Anderson's TCPA Palladium
FAQ. Anderson is a world-class computer security expert, and
there are a lot of sparks flying aournd about this document. The
companies developing TCPA and Palladium tend to say that Anderson
raises some important issues, but that his conclusions are based on
mistaken assumptions about how TCPA and Palladium work. The
presentations in class will be your chance to discuss this and judge
for yourself.
- Look at the TCPA Home Page and read the
TPM FAQ and the TCPA FAQ linked to from that page.
(TPM stands for Trusted Platform Module.)
