6.001 Spring 1998: Homework Discussion Forum
The 6.001 discussion forum permits you to post questions about problem
sets on the World Wide Web. You can also see the questions and
answers posted by other people. There is a separate forum for each
problem set:
Each forum is organized into categories -- one for each tutorial and
computer exercise in the problem set. You can use the links above on
this page to see the categories. In addition, if you view a problem
set (HTML) document on the web, you'll find a link at the end of
each each exercise that takes you to the appropriate category, where
you can see the questions and answers already posted, and you can post
new questions.
Options
When an answer to your question is posted, you will receive
notification by email. There are also several options you can set
that will send you email when other people post questions and answers,
but you probably don't want to do this. (Don't you get enough email
already?)
Privacy
When you post something on the forum, you are asked to include your
name and email address. The system does not check this information,
so there is nothing to stop you from filling in something false; we
hope, however, that you will not do this. One of the goals of the
forum is to stimulate collaboration among everyone in the class rather
than just one-on-one interchanges between students and staff. On the
other hand, we appreciate that not everyone wants to broadcast their
name and address all over the net. The entire forum is therefore
password protected. Please cooperate in trying to keep knowledge of
the password within the class (or at least within MIT).

The 6.001 forum uses software designed by Philip Greenspun, as part of an
experiment on using the Web to support collaboration. You can learn
more about this by reading Philip's book, Database-backed web
